Bloomsburg University Falls To Edinboro in Football

BLOOMSBURG— Trevor Harris' touchdown pass and two-point conversion throw with 1:07 left to play lifted the Edinboro Fighting Scots (2-1) to a wild 42-41 come-from-behind win over Bloomsburg University (1-2) on Saturday.

The loss snapped a 12-game home regular season winning streak for the Huskies dating back to 2004. Bloomsburg also lost its second consecutive game for the first time since the 2003 season.

Harris drove the Fighting Scots 63 yards for the winning score after the Huskies had regained the lead on a two-yard run by Dan Latorre (Elysburg/Southern Columbia) with 1:55 to play. On the touchdown throw, Harris connected with Jeremy Burr from 17-yards out, then connected with Ryan Rybicki for the game-winning points.

Bloomsburg drove to the Edinboro 20-yard line with 12 seconds to play, but Latorre was intercepted by Y'Hoshua Murray in the end zone ending the Huskies threat.

The Huskies were in control early of the game opening a 24-7 lead midway through the second period. Jon Koenig(Pine Grove/Pine Grove) started the scoring for Bloomsburg on its opening drive when he hit a 30-yard field goal. Later, Jamar Brittingham (Levittown/Neshaminy) (25 carries-166 yards) scored on a five-yard run to make it 10-0.

Harris got Edinboro on the board later in the first when he hit Gary Nolen with a 19-yard scoring pass to make it 10-7 after one period.

Brittingham scored on Bloomsburg's next two possessions, once on a five-yard run and the second on a 56-yard run with 7:03 to play in the half, giving Bloomsburg a 24-7 advantage.

Edinboro cut into the lead before halftime when Harris hit Burr with a 23-yard scoring pass for a 24-14 score at the break.

The Fighting Scots opened the third period with Harris hitting Rybicki with a 10-yard pass, then went in front on a Houston Brown three-yard run to give Edinboro a 27-24 lead after the missed extra point.

Bloomsburg went back in front 31-27 when Latorre hit Kyle Ream (Eillotsburg/West Perry) with a 10-yard scoring pass with 3:03 left in the third. However, Edinboro answered right back with Brown scoring on a nine-yard run with 1:32 left in the third.

Bloomsburg tied the score at 34-34 with 7:18 left to play when Koenig hit a 28-yard field goal, then took the lead 41-34 on Latorre's two-yard run with 1:55 to play, setting up Harris' late game heroics.

Harris finished the day 29 of 42 for 329 yards and four touchdowns with Rybicki catching 10 passes for 73 yards and one score.

Latorre finished 21 of 34 for 271 yards and one touchdown with Brahin Bilal (Philadelphia/Lincoln) catching seven passes for 79 yards.

As a team, the Huskies outgained Edinboro 560 to 426 yards and held the edge on first downs, 30-21.

Bloomsburg plays at Clarion next week at 6 p.m.
